SNP Group Welcomes Virgin Atlantic Announcement

>> Tuesday, 20 November 2012

The SNP Group on Aberdeenshire Council has welcomed the announcement by Virgin Atlantic that it is to begin flights from Aberdeen to Heathrow in March next year.

Commenting, SNP Group Economic Development spokesperson Cllr John Cox said:

“The new service will be a great boost to both the business community and leisure travellers. Good connections between Aberdeen and London are vital for the North-East as many businesses located here are global and this development will secure keeping Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as the Global Headquarters and hopefully see many more companies considering establishing presence here.

“Despite this exciting time it has to be recognised Air Passenger Duty is holding back economic growth and shows how out of touch the Westminster Government is.  Businesses in the North-east have the extra burden in having to fly to the main hubs for onward international flights compared to London based businesses.  Time is a cost and APD is a tax on business growth.”
