Local SNP Councillors Hit Out at Moves to Close Macduff Depot

>> Wednesday, 20 February 2013

SNP councillor John Cox has hit out at plans by Aberdeenshire Council to close the service depot in Macduff and relocate it to Mintlaw, branding the proposals “short-sighted in the extreme”.

The council’s depot in Macduff carries out important servicing on winter maintenance equipment, the landscape department’s mowers and machinery, locally-operated snowploughs and provides a service to the Banffshire Partnership’s Dial-a-Bus. Under proposals put forward by council officials, the depot would close and operations transfer to Mintlaw.

Commenting, Banff & District SNP councillor John Cox said:

“While the number of jobs which are proposed to be transferred is small, these are important jobs to Banff and Macduff and I don’t want to see them lost.

“There has been no consultation whatsoever with local councillors on this matter and I am extremely disappointed at Aberdeenshire Council’s failure to engage in a sensible manner on these proposals.”
