JUNIOR BOWLERS GET BENEFIT OF MSP's VIEWS

Cruden Bay Bowling Club's junior section received a £50 boost when local MSP Stewart Stevenson visited the club on Saturday. The Banff & Buchan MSP took part in a recent research survey being conducted by a national company which offered a small sum of money to a local good cause for his time.
In consultation with local councillor Stephen Smith, Mr Stevenson donated the funds to the bowling club to help with their flourishing junior section. In fact, so successful is the club at attracting young bowlers, it is running out of bowls for them to use, so the funds will go towards new sets of bowls.
"I was asked to open the new season at Cruden Bay Bowling Club earlier this year and discovered at that time that the club has around 18 junior players, which is a huge number for a bowling club.
"The club clearly has a very successful youth policy but is a victim of its own success because it now needs more sets of bowls to allow all those who want to the opportunity to play, so I suggested to Stewart that this would be a good home for the funds."
Stewart Stevenson added:
"I think it is absolutely fantastic that Cruden Bay Bowling Club has been able to attract so much interest from local youngsters. Many of them were busy with a game on the green when I attended and they are clearly very good at it. I was therefore pleased to contribute towards supporting young people in sport in this small way."
