STONEHAVEN COUNCILLOR WELCOMES REGENERATION CASH
>> 6 August 2009
Stonehaven & Lower Deeside SNP councillor Graeme Clark has warmly welcomed today's announcement by the Scottish Government that Stonehaven is to benefit from an award of over £180,000 as part of the Scottish Government's town centre regeneration fund.
SNP councillors have been a driving force in pushing for local communities to benefit from the scheme and raised the matter at a meeting of the full Aberdeenshire Council back in March, where a commitment was received from the Provost that the council would be fully supportive of a bid going forward for funding.
Commenting on the success, Councillor Graeme Clark said:
"When the SNP Government introduced this scheme I was hopeful right from the start that Stonehaven could benefit from it, so to get over £180,000 for Stonehaven Town Hall regeneration is fantastic. It is an iconic building but it is badly in need of maintenance. I hope that this funding can perhaps be used to lever in other match funding from other sources.
“The SNP Government is to be congratulated for continuing to take action to protect our local communities from the effects of the "Downing Street Downturn". Along with the small business bonus which has seen rates slashed or removed for our local small businesses, this scheme will help deliver tangible benefits for our town centres."
