TOPPING TABLES MOTION ON FRASERBURGH MATERNITY SERVICES
Fraserburgh SNP councillor Brian Topping will take the fight to preserve maternity services at the town’s hospital to a council meeting.
Councillor Topping has tabled a Motion backing the local maternity services which will be debated at the 29 September meeting of the Banff & Buchan Area Committee.
Commenting, Cllr Brian Topping said:
“NHS Grampian need to remember that Fraserburgh is the only town in Scotland with a population of over 10,000 people which is more than one hour from an acute services hospital. We need to maintain the maternity provision we have in Fraserburgh for local expectant mothers.
“I have tabled a Motion for the meeting of the Banff & Buchan Area Committee of 29 September where I hope it will receive the unanimous support of members.”
Note: The text of Cllr Brian Topping’s Motion is as follows:
That Banff and Buchan Area Committee write to NHS Grampian expressing our concern that the birthing unit, based at Fraserburgh Hospital is currently closed, due to an apparent staff shortage, and requests they to do everything in their power to re-open the birthing unit as a matter of urgency, and also to give a commitment to it's long term future.
