COUNCILLORS WELCOME AWPR ANNOUNCEMENT
>> 21 December 2009
Aberdeenshire SNP councillors serving communities along the A90 have welcomed today’s announcement by Finance Secretary John Swinney that the Aberdeen bypass has been given the go-ahead.
“I very much welcome the announcement that the AWPR is to proceed. There has been an unprecedented volume of public engagement on this issue, and it is only right that the objector’s views have received the level of evaluation and consideration from the Scottish Ministers.
“After many years of Labour/Liberal Democrat procrastination and prevarication over this project, the SNP Government has demonstrated the professionalism and decisiveness required to bring this project to fruition for the wider benefit of the North-east Scotland.”
Peterhead South & Cruden councillor Stephen Smith added:
“I am confident that this project will not only greatly reduce the traffic delays which regular commuters into Aberdeen have suffered for decades, but will also facilitate the flow of goods and produce round Aberdeen City to the benefit of the local economy.
“This is a landmark decision for the farming, fishing and food processing industries for which Aberdeenshire is rightly famous.”
