SNP CANDIDATE THOMSON ON INVERURIE PAPER MILL REINDUSTRIALISATION PLANS

>> 29 March 2010

Speaking following this morning’s signing of an agreement for the reindustrialisation of the former Inverurie paper Mill site, SNP Gordon Westminster Candidate, Richard Thomson, has hailed what he described as a ‘historic day’ for Inverurie.

Mr Thomson said:

“This is a historic day for Inverurie. The town has been associated with paper making for over 150 years, so there’s a lot of sentiment associated with the mill site and a great local desire to see it brought back to productive use.

“I am delighted that within a matter of months, we could be looking at the first construction jobs starting on site, with a further 150 or more permanent jobs once the pelleting and power plants are up and running. The prospect of making use of the rail head at the site also opens up a range of exciting possibilities for freight transport across the North East.

“Today’s agreement represents a huge vote of confidence in the Inverurie area, and will, I’m sure, be the catalyst for further industrial investment and employment opportunities in the future.”
