SALMOND WELCOMES ABERDEEN RUNWAY EXTENSION

>> 30 November 2010

“BETTER LINKS, BETTER FOR GORDON”

Local Gordon MSP, Alex Salmond, has welcomed the news that BAA Aberdeen has been given funding to extend their runway.

Planning approval for lengthening the runway by 300m was given in 2006. The work is due to begin in March of next year, and is expected for completion in 2012.

Commenting, Mr Salmond said:

“The SNP has long campaigned for a runway extension at Aberdeen Airport, which will allow more fuel efficient and larger aircraft to land.

“This development will allow both holiday makers and business people in the North East to reach more destinations directly than ever before. A first class business region such as ours deserves first class transport links, so this is a great development for the community in Gordon.

“This extension gives more companies a direct route into the North East, a fact that is sure to stimulate the economy in this area. It sends out the message loud and clear – we’re open for business.”
