SALMOND WRITES TO ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL ON COLD WEATHER
>> 9 November 2010
Gordon MSP, Alex Salmond, has written to Aberdeenshire Council regarding their plans to deal with the up and coming cold weather, and mitigate any adverse effects. Conditions last winter caused serious disruption across the North East.
In his letter, Mr Salmond raised his concerns regarding the potential for flooding, burst pipes and the worsening condition of roads.
Mr Salmond said;
“After the terrible weather conditions of last winter, it’s important that we are fully prepared for the elements in these coming winter months.
“I am keen to learn what precautions the Council has put in place to lessen the risk of a repeat of the effects of last year’s weather, which caused disruption on our roads and damage to our buildings and businesses. I have therefore written to the Chief Executive of Aberdeenshire Council, asking for an overview of the contingencies put in place to deal with flooding, burst pipes and the worsening condition of roads.
“The SNP Scottish Government has recently announced £750,000 to improve flood forecasting services in Scotland and are keen to work with key agencies such as Local Authorities and Scottish Water to make a real difference to how flooding is tackled.
“It is hugely important that all agencies are communicating with each other, and with the public, to ensure all that can be done is being done and I look forward to the response from the Council."
