Ellon Fire Station Wins Prestigious Award
>> 8 November 2011
Local SNP councillor Rob Merson has congratulated Ellon firefighters on winning a prestigious award at the ‘UK Spirit of Fire Awards 2011’.
This annual event recognises stations and individuals for their charity fundraising. Ellon Fire Station won the top prize as ‘Station of the Year’ at the ceremony in Wembley stadium. They have raised £150,000 over the last 30 years through their annual open day for the Fire Fighters Charity and a similar amount for local causes.
Local councillor Rob Merson (Ellon & District) commented:
"Quite apart from the debt of gratitude which is owed to the Ellon Watch for the valuable service which they provide to the local community, that a small team like Ellon should raise such a phenomenal sum for good causes is truly outstanding. Their recognition in the awards ceremony is therefore exceptionally well-deserved."
The Officer in Charge at Ellon Fire Station, Ron Beedie, was a guest at No 10 Downing Street earlier in the day and the following link shows Ron receiving the award: http://www.firefighterscharity.org.uk/
