Bid To Support Buchan Dial-a-Bus Defeated
>> 29 February 2012
A bid to support Buchan Dial-a-Bus’s patient
transport service and not cut its grant was defeated by seven votes to six at
Thursday’s meeting of Aberdeenshire Council’s Policy & Resources Committee.
Speaking in
support of Cllr Norman Smith’s motion not to cut Buchan DAB funding, Policy
& Resources Committee member Cllr
Stephen Smith (Peterhead South & Cruden) said:
“Buchan Dial-a-Bus
provides lifeline services to people in Central Buchan and people here know how
much the service is valued by the local communities.
“The cut being proposed
is less than £8000 but threatens the patient transport service provided by
Buchan DAB. I was therefore fully
supportive of the proposal at yesterday’s meeting from Cllr Norman Smith to
maintain funding at the current level but this was unfortunately voted down by
the Conservative and Lib Dem council administration.
“I think for that relatively
small sum of money we stand to lose an awful lot in terms of the service which
is now under threat.”
