Peterhead’s first ever “graduation ceremony” from the Transition Extreme Alternative Academy took place this week in the town’s Arbuthnot House.
The ‘Alternative Academy’ is a joint initiative between Transition Extreme, Community Learning & Development and Peterhead Academy which assists young people in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire by providing a range of innovative sporting, health, employability, diversionary and educational opportunities and act as a catalyst for improving health and wellbeing within young people.
Six Peterhead graduates were presented with their certificates at a ceremony by Director of Education for Aberdeenshire Maria Walker. Also in attendance were Peterhead councillors Fiona McRae and Stephen Smith along with Buchan Area Manager Chris White and community representatives, parents and families.
Commenting, Cllr Fiona McRae said:
“Courses like these have the potential to make a real difference in the lives of young people and I’m delighted that Aberdeenshire Council was able to provide support for it to happen.”
Cllr Stephen Smith added:
“It was clear from the talk given by each of the young people involved that this experience has been very beneficial for them and has led to them becoming more confident in themselves and their own abilities and I wish them success in the future.”
