A pipe band has been awarded the Pride of Buchan award for outstanding achievement on the competition field at local and national levels in 2013.
The Buchan Peterson Pipe Band was crowned Grade 2 Champion of Champions at this year’s Cowal Highland Gathering held in Dunoon at the end of August. They also came top on the day in winning The Cowal Championship. The Champion of Champions award goes to the top pipe band in each grade and is decided over five major events over the season.
A total of 135 pipe bands competed in this year’s Highland Gathering where the award was made. The band was also crowned World Champions on Glasgow Green earlier in the month which is seen as a major accolade on the world stage.
At a meeting of the Buchan Area Committee in September, councillors agreed that the pipe band’s achievements should be recognised with the Pride of Buchan Award. The award was presented to members of the pipe band by Area Chairman, Councillor Stuart Pratt, last night.
Commenting, Councillor Pratt said:
