Aberdeenshire SNP Comment on Euro Election Result
>> 29 May 2019
Commenting on the Aberdeenshire European Election results, which saw the SNP once again top the poll and the Conservatives slump to third place in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeenshire Council SNP Group Leader Cllr Richard Thomson said:
"These are very encouraging local and national results. Across Scotland and Aberdeenshire the SNP were confirmed as the most popular party and firmly in a leadership position.
"It was a disastrous night for the Conservatives, who have been punished severely by voters for their serial infighting and failures over Brexit.
"It's also a personal humiliation for Tory Leader Ruth Davidson. Once again, every piece of Conservative election literature had Ms Davidson's picture on the front, urging people to 'send a message to Nicola Sturgeon' in bid to distract from her own party's failings.
"Instead, voters chose to send the message to the Scottish Tories, handing the party the lowest national share of the vote it has achieved in a Parliamentary election in Scotland since records began.
"It's clear that voters in Aberdeenshire continue to oppose the burach the Tories are making of Brexit and want to make sure that Scotland's voice is both heard and respected. The Conservatives will continue to ignore that sentiment at their electoral peril."
