The Scottish National Party has announced its candidate for the Peterhead North and Rattray ward of Aberdeenshire Council.
Sitting councillor Anne Allan has announced she will retire at the coming election. First elected to the former Peterhead Blackhouse ward in 1999, Cllr Allan has been re-elected at every election since then, representing Peterhead North and Rattray following boundary changes in 2007.
Leeann has lived in Buchan for over 25 years and previously worked in the energy sector for Kvaerner in Ellon and latterly Wood Group in Peterhead, leaving in 2004 to become a full-time mum to her son, who is autistic. Leeann also worked as an Administration Assistant in the local Education Department and played an active role in her local Parent Council, initially as secretary, then chairperson and latterly as a committee member.
Commenting on her selection, Leeann McWhinnie said:
“Anne Allan has been an excellent representative for Peterhead North and Rattray and has done a power of work for the area. I wish Anne well in her retirement and I’m delighted to have been selected to stand for election as a councillor.
“If elected, I will always try to assist where I can and work across party lines to get the best outcomes locally.”

Councillor Anne Allan added:
“Being a councillor has been hard work and challenging at times, sometimes frustrating, but immensely rewarding when you achieve something for a constituent, community group or the Ward.
“I will miss it when I step down in a few weeks’ time but in Leeann McWhinnie I know we have someone who will work hard to get the best for the people within the local area. I look forward to campaigning alongside her in the days and weeks ahead.”
