SNP Councillor Comments on Reversal of Largue School Mothballing Decision
>> 25 April 2023
Aberdeenshire Council have announced that they will no longer progress with the mothballing of Largue School.
Commenting, SNP Councillor for Huntly, Strathbogie and Howe of Alford, Gwyneth Petrie said:
“I am very glad to hear that Aberdeenshire Council have reversed their decision and will no longer mothball Largue School, however I am sorry for the families who have been put through this uncertain and upsetting period.
“I remain concerned that such decisions can be taken without any consultation with elected members or our communities who, without doubt, know these areas best. I do hope that the council will look to work with our communities, rather than impose decisions upon them, for any future issues of such importance.
“As an opposition group, we will continue to look at how we can bring such decisions back within a democratic process. We cannot simply write off rural schools off hand - there has to be a considered conversation around how best we deliver education for all of our communities."
