Parliamentarians Visit Mearns Farm
>> 12 August 2008
SNP Member of the European Parliament Ian Hudghton and North-east MSP Nigel Don will meet with Kincardineshire NFUS members tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1.30pm to discuss agriculture issues including EU proposals to ban a number of plant protection products.
The meeting is being hosted by North-east NFUS Board member Andrew Moir on his farm at Thornton Mains, Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire AB30 1EB.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Ian Hudghton commented:
“I am looking forward to meeting Mearns farmers to get their views on current issues having met with farmers at Keith Show and Turriff Show earlier this month.
“The increased cost of fuel and fertiliser are major issues, as with the proposals from the EU to ban certain pesticides which would have an effect on the ability to grow certain crops.
“The value of these meetings is that I can take the views of those involved at the sharp end of the industry direct to Brussels.”
