Banchory & Mid-Deeside SNP councillor Linda Clark has added her congratulations to those being received by Bancjory Academy on its success in the World Schools Orienteering Championships that were held in Madrid last week.

Eighteen young orienteers from across Scotland travelled out to compete in the event against 19 other nations from across the world. The pupils had to read maps and find points in the shortest time and use map-reading skills.

Banchory Academy pupil 13-year-old Rhona McMillan returned home with a gold medal and fellow pupil Jessica Mason (15) was 4th. The event took place over two individual races with the best three results in each race counting towards the overall team score and Banchory Academy won an overall award of Bronze.

Commenting, Councillor Linda Clark said:

"This is a tremendous achievement by Rhona and Jessica and indeed everyone from Banchory Academy who contributed to this success.

"To achieve such a high position in a global competition is just phenomenal and very exciting indeed and I send the Banchory competitors my warmest congratulations."
