PORTSOY COUNCILLOR WELCOMES INCREASED POLICE PRESENCE IN BURGH

>> 8 July 2009

Local SNP councillor Ian Gray has welcomed the announcement from Grampian Police that Portsoy Police Station will be permanently staffed on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Grampian Police have two officers dedicated to the station who are responsible for Portsoy and Aberchirder. Along with a civilian member of staff who will split his time between Banff and Portsoy, the increased presence means the Police Station will be permanently staffed from midday to 3.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Commenting, Councillor Ian Gray said:

"This is something I have wanted to see for a long time so I very much welcome today's announcement from Grampian Police.

"One of the most common questions I get asked in the town is 'When can I get a bobby in the station?', so this is something which has been needed and will be greatly appreciated by the townspeople.

"I hope that local people will drop in to see their local bobbies even if they have nothing to report because an important part of community policing these days is intelligence and a good relationship with the community."
