SALMOND WELCOMES CASH BOOST FOR LOCAL FOOD PRODUCER
>> 29 June 2010
Gordon MSP Alex Salmond has today welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement that it is to award a grant to local quality food producer, Scotch Premier Meat, following an increase of 22% in food and drink sales across Scotland.
The encouraging growth figures have sparked a series of awards totalling £4.2 million from the Scottish Governemnt to producers under the ‘Food Processing, Marketing and Co-Operative (FPMC) Grants Scheme’.
Locally, Inverurie’s own Scotch Premier Meat is to be awarded two separate grants of £5,364 and £68,142 respectively.
Commenting on Scotch Premier Meat’s achievement, Mr Salmond said:
“I want to congratulate Scotch Premier Meat on their recent cash award from the Scottish Government, which is testament to their first class operation.
“Scotland’s world-class food and drink industry has weathered the recent economic storm to come out exceptionally strong this year. Everyone at Scotch Premier Meat should be very proud of the hard work they have put in over the past year to succeed in this competitive industry.
“It is producers like Scotch Premier Meat that earn the North East of Scotland its reputation for fine food and quality produce, a reputation that has carried the industry through the recession. Excellence in our food and drink industry makes us a healthier and wealthier country, and is integral to rural economies like ours in Inverurie.”
