FIRST NEW COUNCIL HOMES TO BE BUILT IN THE TOWN SINCE 1991
Gordon MSP, Alex Salmond, has welcomed plans to build 22 new council houses at Stonefield Place, Inverurie.
The Scottish Government has pledged £1.85 million towards the project, which will see the first council homes built in the town since 1991.
This development will form part of a project to build 70 new homes across Aberdeenshire.
Commenting Mr Salmond said:
“One of the most frequent reasons for constituents visiting my office is to seek help in finding an appropriate affordable home in the area, and this will be welcome news indeed for my constituents.
“Access to adequate housing is a human right, and Scotland has taken a lead in the UK in finding ways to finance affordable homes. In fact, under the SNP, 2,609 more affordable homes were built last year than in the last year of the Labour-Liberal administration.
“Inverurie is rapidly expanding and there are currently over 7,000 people on the housing waiting list in Aberdeenshire. This is fantastic news for the town in easing the housing pressures and in making sure Inverurie has adequate provision for the future.”
