SALMOND WELCOMES BALMEDIE-TIPPERTY DUAL CARRIAGEWAY
>> 27 January 2011
Gordon MSP, Alex Salmond, has today (Thursday) welcomed the decision by the Scottish Government to proceed with the scheme to dual the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty. Transport Minister Keith Brown gave the go ahead for the upgrade after considering the findings and recommendations of the public local inquiry.
The improvements will provide continuous dual carriageway between Aberdeen and Ellon and remove the bottleneck caused by the existing single carriageway.
Gordon MSP, Alex Salmond said:
“I’m delighted the SNP Government have taken the decision to make the much needed improvements to one of the key transport corridors in the north east. This project, once completed, will result in improved and more reliable journey times and improved safety for anyone using the A90 north of Aberdeen.
“The local community have been pressing for this upgrade for a number of years and today’s announcement will see the removal of the bottleneck caused by the existing single carriageway.
“After years of inaction by the previous Labour-Liberal administration, it has taken the SNP in Government to get progress on this vital transport project and the folk of Gordon and the north east are set to benefit.”
“Everyone knows the critical nature of the public spending cutbacks of nearly £1.3bn in Scotland being imposed by the ConDem Government, and to make progress on an improved Balmedie – Tipperty route against that is very welcome indeed.”
