MSP To Meet Peter Morris At Handover To Public Petitions' Committee

>> 14 September 2011

North East SNP MSP Mark McDonald will tomorrow (Thursday 15th September 2011) meet Peter Morris when he arrives at the Scottish Parliament at 3pm to hand over a petition to the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee.

Peter Morris set off from Tarves a fortnight ago to walk to the parliament to raise awareness over support for the families of the victims of serious crime, following his own experiences after his sister was murdered by her husband, Malcolm Webster.

Due to a severe foot injury, however, Mr. Morris was unable to complete the walk. However, members of the Aberdeen Law Project, who have helped Mr. Morris throughout his campaign, will complete the last leg of the walk tomorrow afternoon, and Mr. Morris will join them for the final half mile.

Mr. Morris will then be joined by Mr. McDonald, who has been supportive of Mr. Morris’ efforts, before handing over his petition, which calls for greater support for the victims of serious crime, to the convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee outside the main entrance to the Parliament building at 3pm.

Since then, Mr. Morris has announced his intention to set up a foundation in his sister’s name to provide emotional support to families directly affected by serious crime and will be meeting with Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill tomorrow to discuss the issue.
