Local Councillor Comments On Peterhead Landslip

>> 15 January 2012

Commenting on the landslip which occurred at the Lido, closing a section of a residential street and causing a local business to be evacuated, Peterhead South & Cruden SNP councillor Stephen Smith said:

“Unfortunately, the advice from the geotechnical engineers is that there is a risk there could be further landslips.  Clearly, the safety of the public must be a priority and action has been taken to temporarily close a section of Mackenzie Crescent and also evacuate the building at the base of the landslip.

“My concern is that due to the nature of these things – as we’ve seen recently in Pennan and Stonehaven – there is unlikely to be a quick solution, which will mean inconvenience to local residents and the business affected.”
