SNP Councillors Press for Stonehaven Flood Resiliance

>> 1 March 2013

SNP councillors have sought assurances that action will be taken sooner than later to repair the recent damage caused by flooding in Stonehaven.

Today’s meeting of Aberdeenshire Council’s Policy & Resources Committee considered a report on the recent storm damage in the Kincardineshire town and the public meeting held there last month.

The meeting heard that the council will work to secure a Flood Protection Order and will work with the Stonehaven Flood Action Group on six options to build flood resiliance in the town. A new Principal Engineer post would be created to concentrate on flood issues with a view to taking forward proposals.

Stonehaven & Lower Deeside SNP councillor Graeme Clark commented:

“It’s really important to get these resilience measures in place as soon as possible. An awful lot of folk suffered a huge amount of damage to their homes and properties during the recent floods and I don’t want people to have to endure that yet again.

“This is a good start and I welcome the attention being paid to the issue, but time is of the essence if we are to prevent yet another repeat of the flooding which affected Stonehaven.”
