Peterhead Businesses Set to Benefit from 'Retail Plus'

>> 15 January 2015

SNP councillor and Buchan Area Committee Chairman Cllr Stuart Pratt has welcomed financial backing for the Peterhead Retail Plus project from Aberdeenshire Council, which was ratified today.

At its meeting in December, the Buchan Area Committee agreed that Peterhead should benefit from opening up the Retail Plus scheme – which has proved successful in Fraserburgh – to applications from local businesses. Funding for this was approved at today’s meeting of the council’s Policy & Resources Committee.

Explaining the scheme, Cllr Stuart Pratt said:

“Retail Plus is a project aimed at supporting the retail businesses of Peterhead in two ways. The first is through providing expert advice on a one-to-one basis for independent businesses in the town. The second and complementary part of the project is to offer business improvement grants of 50% of expenditure up to £2,000 per business to enable participants to implement the expert advice obtained.

“Feedback from Fraserburgh, where the scheme has already been rolled-out is that businesses there found it very useful and I hope that Peterhead businesses will be able to use the scheme to their advantage once it opens for applications.”
