Aberdeenshire SNP Group Comment on Affordable Housing Proposals
>> 23 April 2015
Commenting following today’s meeting of Aberdeenshire Council’s Policy and Resources Committee, where councillors agreed to allocate £2.2 million pounds towards the provision of affordable housing, SNP Shadow Council Leader Hamish Vernal said:
“The SNP Group very much welcomes this paper. Increasing the supply of affordable housing for rent has long been a key priority of our councillors and while this is clearly not enough on its own, it at least represents a start in tackling the shortage we face.
“It’s worth noting the similarity between today’s plans which reallocate £2.2m from the Council’s ‘Innovation Reserve’ and the additional £2m earmarked for affordable housing in the SNP budget in February, which proposed drawing on the same funding source.
“Although we were disappointed in February to see the SNP budget voted down, it’s encouraging to see at least one of our proposals being taken up with such speed.”
