Local Councillor Ross Cassie Highlights Financial Support for Scottish Gas Customers

Troup SNP councillor Ross Cassie has highlighted a new support fund from Scottish Gas aimed at helping their customers who have less than £1000 in savings with their fuel bills.

With Ofgem’s significant energy price cap increase taking effect from earlier this month, Scottish Gas has put a further £2 million into their Support Fund through the British Gas Energy Trust - this takes the total available in the form of grants for the most vulnerable households to £6 million.

Welcoming the initiative, Cllr Ross Cassie said:

“Grants of between £250 and £750 to help towards energy bills are available to Scottish Gas customers. Applications are assessed and awarded by the British Gas Energy Trust, which is an independent charity. Any Scottish Gas customer with less than £1,000 in savings is eligible to apply.

“Over 2,500 grants have already been given out with an average amount of £553. Over a third of the recipients are on disability benefit and many are families – 30 per cent are single parents and a quarter have children under 5 years old.

“There are and will continue to be a range of pressures on household budgets from the Tory cost-of-living crisis but this initiative from Scottish Gas may be of some assistance to constituents and I would urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible for assistance to apply.”
