Councillor Stephen Smith Raises Cruden Power-Cuts with SSEN
>> 7 December 2022
Peterhead South and Cruden SNP councillor Stephen Smith has raised the recent frequent power outages affecting Longhaven and the Cruden area with SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks).
The area has been hit by several power cuts in recent days, two of those as a result of electricity poles allegedly catching fire.
Commenting, Cllr Stephen Smith said:
“Longhaven has suffered three outages in the last 7-10 days or so, along with a planned outage on Tuesday evening for maintenance purposes. At least two of those outages were a result of transmission poles at separate locations and on different days ‘going on fire’ according to what constituents are telling me.
“This has understandably raised some concern regarding community resilience and the reliability of the electricity supply in what is a scattered rural community.
“SSEN have now come back to me advising they are checking the overhead lines at Longhaven and Cruden Bay and will take steps to rectify any further defects identified.”

In their response to Cllr Smith, SSEN stated:
“We are currently line patrolling the overhead line at Cruden Bay and Longhaven, to establish any further network defects. When we have this data, we will put plans in place to rectify the defects causing any immediate risk to security of supply and also use the data to influence further investment into the network to ensure resilience of Cruden Bay and Longhaven electricity network.”
