Fire Board Demands Apology From Lib Dem Candidate

>> 18 April 2011

A Liberal Democrat election candidate has been asked to apologise to the North-east’s fire chief after using his picture in a political leaflet.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Joint Board said Alison McInnes should say sorry to Chief Fire Officer David Dalziel for publishing his photograph on campaign literature in the contest for the Aberdeenshire East constituency.

All members of the Board – including four Liberal Democrat Board members – agreed unanimously that Ms McInnes should apologise to the Chief Fire Officer for any embarrassment caused by using his photograph in her election literature.

Commenting, Peterhead South & Cruden councillor and Grampian Fire and Rescue Joint Board member Stephen Smith said:

“I am disappointed that Alison McInnes attempted to politicise the Chief Fire Officer in this way. That disappointment was clearly shared by the Lib Dem members of the Board, who agreed that an apology should be sought from the candidate.”
