>> 12 April 2011
SNP candidate for Aberdeenshire East, Alex Salmond, was joined by his niece, and newly elected member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, Christina Hendry today (Tuesday) in Ellon.
Mr Salmond and Christina visited Ellon Music School, Skin Deep, to drum up support for the campaign to re-elect Alex Salmond as the MSP for Aberdeenshire East.
Christina is originally from the North East, but has recently been elected as MSYP for her home constituency of Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire.
Commenting Mr Salmond said:
“Our visit to Skin Deep was greatly enjoyable – it’s a fantastic resource for kids and adults to allow their musical talents to flourish.
“Our kids are the future of this country and resources like Skin Deep allow us to get the most out of our young people. Their state-of-the-art equipment and professional staff allow music lovers to focus on the type of music they enjoy most – encouraging them to achieve the same qualifications in rock music as they would do in classical.
“I’m delighted that Christina has chosen to spend her school holidays campaigning for me in Aberdeenshire East, working hard alongside our local activists to prepare my election address for delivery and speak voters across the area.
“Christina wanted to get elected on her own merits so didn't ask for any help from me in her own campaign - but I’m more than happy to accept her participation in mine!”
Christina added:
“I had fun sticking labels on Uncle Alex’s election addresses yesterday but I definitely enjoyed visiting the rock school more!
“One of my hobbies is music and playing instruments so I think it’s great that there’s a place in this area for young people to enhance their musical ability – and to really enjoy it too, cause music is all about enjoying yourself and expressing yourself.
“I’ve has a great time campaigning in the area. There’s only 3 weeks left to the election, there’s a great atmosphere, all the activists are working really hard to re-elect Alex Salmond as the MSP for Aberdeenshire –East and as First Minister of Scotland”
