SNP Councillor Comments on AWPR Progress
>> 29 January 2015
Commenting at today’s meeting of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, SNP Group Transport spokesperson and Stonehaven & Lower Deeside council Graeme Clark said:
“At long last we now have details of the long-awaited Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
“After all the years of delay and court cases, we now know the cost of the project, but more importantly, we know that work will be completed in the winter of 2017. We also learn that because the final agreement with Aberdeen Roads Limited has been driven down by £220 million, both Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City councils will need to find £10 million less each. This is an excellent cost-saving.
“The scheme is estimated to bring around £6 billion worth of benefits and 14,000 jobs to the North-east economy.
“After suffering all these years of traffic hold-ups, the North-east public can now look forward to this much-needed infrastructure improvement.”
