Local Councillor Comments on £330k Upgrade of Power Lines in Cruden Area

>> 27 June 2023

Aberdeenshire councillor for the Cruden area Stephen Smith has welcomed today’s announcement by SSEN of a £330,000 upgrade to the power lines serving Cruden Bay, Hatton and Longhaven – which comes the day after another prolonged power outage which affected residents in those communities.

The programme of works, which will boost network resilience and improve the security of supply to around 1,700 customers, will start on 10 July and run through to the end of August, and see teams working on over 100km of SSEN Distribution’s existing network, replacing poles, lines and equipment to ensure the infrastructure is in optimum condition.

Commenting, Peterhead South and Cruden SNP councillor Stephen Smith said:

“Coming as it does just the day after the Cruden Bay, Hatton and Longhaven area suffered another prolonged power cut, this announcement from SSEN will be welcomed by local residents.

“The area is in desperate need of having its power supply made more resilient so I’m glad that this investment is taking place and look forward to the works being completed over the summer.”
