LOCAL COUNCILLOR COMMENTS ON TORY CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENT

Commenting on the announcement by the Conservatives that they have selected their beaten Westminster candidate to contest the new Banffshire & Buchan Coast constituency for the Scottish Parliament, Peterhead SNP councillor Anne Allan said:

"I congratulate Mr Buchan on his selection. It allows us the opportunity to remind ourselves that it was he who said of the SNP Scottish Government in a newspaper interview: 'For the first time in many years I see a government actually fighting for the best interests of Scottish industry and I see a government willing to work and listen to the people at the sharp end of the industry.'"

"We should never forget it was the Tories who took us into the disastrous Common Fisheries Policy and who now support the sale of our quota to the Spaniards. If even their candidate for Banffshire & Buchan Coast recognises the commitment and success of the SNP government, then the right thing for voters to do is to continue to vote SNP."
