PETERHEAD COUNCILLORS WELCOME ASSURANCE ON BURNHAVEN BUS SERVICE
>> 29 August 2010
Peterhead South SNP councillors Stuart Pratt and Stephen Smith have welcomed an assurance from Aberdeenshire Council's Public Transport Unit that they will support moves to reinstate a local bus service withdrawn by the operator.
The move is a result of complaints from local residents following Stagecoach Bluebird's commercial decision to withdraw the fare paying local bus service, between Boddam and Peterhead Academy, which previously departed at 0754 hours and operated via Stirling Village and HM Prison.
"The decision to withdraw the bus service was made by Stagecoach Bluebird on commercial grounds but following complaints from residents in the area and the involvement of the council's Public Transport Unit, I'm pleased to say that the bus company have proposed reinstating the withdrawn service.
"Technically, any further changes to the bus timetable cannot take place for 90 days owing to rules laid down by the Traffic Commissioners, but the council is supporting the bus company in its request for an earlier revision date and I would hope that the service can be restored during September."
Cllr Stephen Smith added:
"Stagecoach Bluebird have also proposed a p.m. return service from Peterhead Academy so I hope that this, coupled with the reinstatement of the morning service, will resolve the problems caused for residents at Towerhill and Burnhaven."
