SNP Comment on Olympic Civic Reception

>> 16 September 2012

SNP councillors in Aberdeenshire were among those present at today’s civic reception to honour North-east Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Today’s civic event was arranged after Shadow Leader of the Council Hamish Vernal approached Provost Jill Webster suggesting an event be held to recognise North-east athletes.

Among those present was Cllr David Aitchison, who represents Westhill, home town of medallist Tim Baillie who was one of the athletes honoured today.  Commenting, Cllr Aitchison said:

"This was a truly fantastic event and it was right and proper that we should honour our local athletes, torch-bearers and stewards who contributed to the success of the Olympics.

“All of them made a tremendous contribution in their own way and have done Scotland proud."
