BANCHORY COUNCILLOR WELCOMES SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT HOME INSULATION INITIATIVE
>> 20 September 2010
SNP councillor for Banchory & Mid-Deeside Linda Clark has welcomed the announcement from the Scottish Government that thousands of households across the country will be offered loft and cavity wall insulation to help lower fuel bills and prepare for winter.
19 local authorities across Scotland will benefit with around 200,000 households due to be contacted over the next few months Over 16,000 homes in the Marr Area alone will be visited by doorstep assessors this year.
Low-income households will be offered free insulation, with higher-income households receiving a discounted deal. The package of measures will help households save, on average, £50 a year on fuel bills and significantly cut carbon emissions in the home.
Commenting, Cllr Linda Clark said:
“Ensuring that homes have adequate insulation is a good way to cut fuel bills and help the environment at the same time. For our elderly householders and families it should provide a welcome boost, particularly if we get another winter like the last one.
“Had the Scottish Government bowed to the demands of the Tory/Liberal Coalition in London for early cuts to budgets, this is exactly the sort of scheme which would have been under severe threat, so I’m particularly pleased that the Scottish Government stood firm against introducing the cuts demanded of it by Westminster.”
