Councillor Welcomes Progress as Ladies Bridge Tender Approved

>> 13 November 2014

Peterhead South & Cruden councillor Stephen Smith has welcomed the approval of the tender for the replacement for the Ladies Bridge at Cruden Bay.

The tender for the design, manufacture and installation of the bridge was approved today by the council’s Policy & Resources Committee at a meeting in Aberdeen and awarded to CTS Bridges Limited.

Cllr Stephen Smith, who proposed approval of the tender, said:

“This is very badly-needed and will be welcomed by people in Cruden Bay. There has been a long campaign for a new bridge over a period of many years and we’ve had instances in recent years where the bridge has had to be closed owing to lack of maintenance.

“This will give the village a new bridge which will maintain access to the beach, which is not only important for locals but also draws a lot of people to Cruden Bay who spend money in local shops and hotels.

“It is important that the construction is carried out within as short a time as possible so that the period when there will be no access to the beach is kept as short as possible.”
